La Gaîté Lyrique
Eclipse shaped signage in the lobby of a Parisian cultural center.
We have been contacted by the architect’s office Gillot + Givry in January 2014 to think about a special marking system on the new doors and pictures windows of the Gaîté Lyrique. Rather than opting for the traditional security red dot, this Parisian cultural center wanted a more inventive marking system in harmony with the spirit of the place and mixing creation, innovation, and numerical cultures.
The doors downstairs open on the reception area and have to reflect the identity of the place. For these doors, we have used the shape and the proportions of the three circles of the logo of the Gaîté Lyrique and we have played with the automatic opening system of the doors and with the transparency of the films chosen, so that eclipses would appear each time the doors are moving.
In this game of luminous phenomenon, we have opted for a dichroic film, of which the color, indescribable, changes constantly depending on the vision angle chosen. The black circles were printed on an integral transparent film surrounded with a slight shading halo.
Upstairs, we have reproduced this game of eclipses and transparencies using the two faces of the glazed walls. On one of the face was applied the black shading film, and on the other the dichroic film.
